The undergrads are back

Living in a large apartment complex on the undergraduate side of campus has a certain amount of entertainment value. Last year's undergrads tended to party a lot and have sex. At least the ones living directly above us did. They also got rid of most of their furniture by throwing it out their third story window when they moved out (we scavenged the chairs that survived the fall). In the building next door there was a pretty good violinist, who used to play out on the balcony in the evening. Unfortunately, he seems to have moved out too.

This year's undergrads are considerably quieter. They seem to like movies (while falling asleep recently I have been able to discern the soundtracks to Lord of the Rings, Pirates of the Caribbean, and some unidentified horror movie emanating from somewhere else in the building. You have no idea how hard it is to fall asleep at 2 am while listening to a horror movie in the near distance). We also have a band in a nearby suite, which practices on weekend afternoons. They're pretty good, and it's not unpleasant to study while listening to the muffled yet fresh sound of rock coming through the wall.

This morning, at 9 am, a guy was sitting inside the gate of the complex next door, playing the guitar and sitting. Was he trying to get somebody's attention, or trying to practice without annoying anybody? I was awake, but I'm sure more than a few people were pissed off...
